Sleepover Guest

K always gets very excited when she hears that Bergen's parents are flying over Atlanta. If we get lucky they land and drop her off for a night or two! This always prompts the following conversation....

Me: K we are going to Aspen, Palm Beach or ________ (you fill in the blank)

K: Are we flying commerical?

Me: Ummmm....yes.

K: Hugh sigh........and upon arrival at TSA an even bigger sigh followed by lots of eye rolling.

Running to the plane to meet Bergen

Sweet Shelby who was on her way to Virginia to look at colleges
A little layover gave some us time to hang out at the airport-actually turned into a long layover because Britton had a long conference call. I loved it because Sheila and I got a chance to get caught up!

School started this week. K is in a new school this year. Nurturing, structured (but not regimented), calm and peaceful. Perfect for K!

It isn't easy being K

We spent the last part of our summer in Aspen.

Rockclimbing

A night at the rodeo

A return to the scene of the crime! The ice rink where I broke my arm two years ago. No ice skating for me this summer!

Oops!

Fun in the park!

Visiting the dogs of Aspen at The Aspen Times and Kemosabe.

Always out looking at real estate. Does it get much more beautiful than this? Maytag Ranch near Salida in central Colorado. Buy 1,000 acres of land and you get 110 pounds of beef a year. Burgers and steaks. Yum!!!!!

We didn't always eat healthy. Besides there is not much between Salida and Denver.

We wrapped up our trip with a day at the Denver Zoo.

Love these sweet looking bears. One night while we were in Aspen we had dinner with our friend, Annamie, she was late because there was a bear eating berries right outside of her door. She had to wait for the bear to leave before she could join us for dinner. The police received reports of 26 bears in 3 days. A bear even went into a fur store in town.

Five Years Ago

It is hard to believe that it has been five years ago that K came to Atlanta for the summer. Harder still to believe that a child that little took such a long journey. I love these pictures of her first trip to the beach. She stood and took it all in for a long time. That is Liza our little neighbor with her.

Eet ees feeneeshed

Our last day in Paris and yet another park. The apartment that we rented was not available the last night of our trip so we moved to a hotel. We stayed at the Lutetia and found this darling park across the street. The hotel is art deco-not exactly my taste. It was the headquarters for the Nazis during WWII. It was kind of creepy but the rooms were nice and the staff could not have been nicer.

We did not leave until late in the afternoon so the girls got some time to play and run off some energy. They were angels on the way home. We were seated in the front of the plane and they were seated in the back but all was well.

K decided that the playground was too babyish so she took some time to draw

Last Night In Paris

Our last night in Paris turned out to be a magical night. Our first attempt to go up in the Eiffel Tower earlier in the trip was unsuccessful because the lines were so long. We had heard that the lines were not so long at night so we decided to give it another try. Unfortunately the lines were as long as they had been during the day plus it was really cold. I wanted K to see the Eiffel Tower light up but it was only 8 o'clock so we had to figure out how to kill a couple of hours and keep two little girls awake. K had a barbe a papa and Olivia wanted ice cream so we headed to Ile de la Cite. As we were walking around there was no line for Notre Dame so we convinced the girls to go in. To our surprise there was an incredible concert underway. There was a soft glow in the cathedral because the only light was candlelight and the music was lovely, almost ethereal. The cathedral was breath takingly beautiful. After the concert we headed to Place de la Concorde because it is a wonderful place to view the Eiffel Tower when it lights up. Just as we got out of our cab the Eiffel Tower started it's show. It never fails to take my breath away. K let out a gasp when she saw it. After a strategic trip to the bathroom at the Hotel de Crillon we piled into a cab to head home. I commented that the Place de la Concorde looks so pretty at night when it is lit up and just at that moment the lights came on! We all gasped. A perfect ending to a magical evening and a magical trip.
